Kasetsart University is a national research university in Thailand. It was the first agricultural university and is the third oldest university in Thailand. Even though the university has since expanded its curricula to cover many other subject areas, it is still internationally known for its top tier research and programs in agriculture, tropical forestry, agro-industry, fisheries and engineering. Today, in addition to agricultural sciences, one can study science, arts, social sciences, humanities, education and architecture at KU. The great achievement and honor of the university is that Kasetsart University is ranked 29th in the world, 4th in Asia and 1st in ASEAN in the fields of agriculture and forestry in the QS World University Rankings of 2017.
Kasetsart University has four campuses, with an enrollment of almost 70,000 students. There are international students from over 40 countries every year. KU offers its international students many activities during the semester, for example, trips in the Bangkok metropolitan area, Thai cooking and language classes, sports days, the KU International Food Fair and the KU Buddy Program. Today, Kasetsart University not only retains its function as an important higher education institution in Thailand, but it also serves as a popular university for international students around the world. Kasetsart University has grown steadily and has accomplished much through the years. It has become a comprehensive university that is highly regarded both nationally and internationally.
In 2010, KU was selected to be one of the nine national research universities in Thailand by the Ministry of Education. With KU’s vision to become “the world’s leading research university in agriculture, food, technology and innovation”, the university has set up four advance research centers to carry out the National Research University project by sharing resources and goal while other units of the university in the central area and provinces will coordinate to generate results to increase research productivity and knowledge creation. The four centers include the Center for Advances Studies for Agriculture and Food, the Center for Advanced Studies in Tropical Natural Resources, the Center for Advanced Studies in Nanotechnology for Chemical, Food and Agricultural Industries, and the Center for Advanced Studies in Industrial Technology.
Student Life and Facilities
Overseas students can have access to facilities and services provided for all Thai and overseas students i.e. libraries, sport complex, medical care, IT services, postal service, convenience stores, banks, transportation, consultancy, and academic and entertainment activities such as sport events, concerts and, “Kaset Fair”- the annual academic conference with a popular market fair. In addition, many student clubs are also available for overseas student to expand their experience by, for instance, practicing Thai language skills in friendly atmosphere.
