As promised, we have been arranging special opportunities for recruitment of international students from strategic locations. Malaysia, at the moment offers lots of opportunities to recruit good quality students. You may be aware that the National education plan for Malaysia includes the recruitment of 100,000 international students into Malaysia by 2010. These students are looking for some initial Foundation work and English before transferring to UK.

In Malaysia at the moment there are students from Mongolia, Nepal, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, China, Vietnam, Singapore, Libya, Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, South Africa and many more. This is a real opportunity to diversify your international student base.

The popular programmes for Malaysian students are ABE, ACCA, A levels and articulation from Diploma programmes in Malaysia onto final year degree programmes in the UK. Many Malay students are looking at Foundation programmes in the UK rather than their own A level equivalent which is the STPM.

We have arranged with the Star education fair to have an international section at the Fair and have booked 14 booths for international colleges. Amazingly, the cost of the booth is only £850 and we are including all the services shown in the attachment. If you are not able to attend the fair or feel that you would rather dip your toe in the market first, there is the possibility to participate in a stand share scheme for only £250. This price includes the production of a 2m x 800mm hanging banner. E West, who is one of the top recruiting companies in Malaysia will have her staff to man the booths and to distribute your literature and follow up on all enquiries.

I do encourage you to participate in some form. I would also suggest that you would need to undertake a follow up visit after a period of 3 months in order to maximise your activities in Malaysia. As we only have 14 booths and 5 have already been taken, I urge you to confirm participation as soon as possible.

You may also wish to offer a scholarship to one student. This is usually a fee waver for a one year course and gives you lots of publicity with the Star newspaper.
