As our name clearly says we are firstly a Christian
school. What does this mean? Our desire is that you will be welcomed
into a place with a Christian ambience. You do not have to be
Christian to attend our centre (many of our students are not)
but the teachers, staff and host families generally are. We do
begin our days with a time of devotions this usually includes
a short talk from either staff or students and is accompanied
by a time of singing. It truly is a great way to start the day.
We are a British Council accredited school and therefore uphold
their standards as an English Language institute. All of our teachers
are qualified and many have years of experience and further qualifications
in teaching English. We hope you will find the quality of our
teaching to be of a high standard.
We offer a wide range of English language learning possibilities.
Our main body of students study in a General English language
course using internationally recognised methods and materials.
The minimum study period is two weeks, but for those really wanting
to improve their ability, we recommend a more extended period.
Quite a few of our students stay to complete internationally recognised
examinations such as FCE, CAE or IELTS. We also offer a Teachers’
course for those who are already teachers of English in their
own countries, who would like to find out more about recent developments
in teaching, while studying English as well. If you would like
to study at a British University, you may be interested in our
University Foundation Course. In addition to these courses, we
offer special Business English courses, one-to-one, one-to-two
or English for Specific purposes. Groups are welcome by prior
arrangement.
We accept students on almost every Monday of the year. The Examination
courses, Teachers’ Course and Beginners’ courses have
specific start dates. The general courses usually run on an eight-week
cycle. Week one begins a new course and so we suggest that this
is the best time to join a course. The next best time to join
a course is in the middle or on week five. That’s the reason
for our suggested start dates. Though do keep in mind that any
Monday is OK with us.
Now that you have read this page how about visiting our main
English site to find out about prices, meet the staff, have a
look at our town - Christchurch, take an English test and then
apply on-line to come to the Christian English Language Centre.
